Their my child

I stumbled across this song and it is just amazing, so of course I had to use it to celebrate the found family trope, which I think everyone knows I love, among my OC's. The Song is My Boy/My Girl by Elvie Shane.

Jane and Ember[]

"She ain't got my smile, that don't bother me a bit."

Just because they both have dragon blood, it didn't mean they were identical, as Jane's sisters take extra care to point out whenever they see the selfie she has of Ember and her posing on her wall when they visit.

"She's got somebody else's eyes I'm seein' myself in."

She doesn't know her whole back story, but she sees enough of it to know that Ember has also been hurt by the people she's supposed to be able to count on and she can tell it by the look in her eyes.

"I'm holdin' onto every moment, God knows I've missed a few."

Jane almost wished she had found Ember long before she was a teenager just so they could really be family.

"The day we met, I knew I had some catchin' up to do."

She may not have been able to be there for her when she was scared but she was there for her now. She'd make it count.

Baniti and Abanoub[]

"He ain't my blood, ain't got my name."

He was a bit cautious when his daughter brought the prince to their home for the first time, especially considering he knew about his wife's past love interest with the king.

"But if he did, I'd feel the same."

All that went out the window the first time he saw the boy sink to his knees and just cry, and Baniti was the only one around.

"I wasn't there for his first steps."

He didn't get a chance to meet the prince till he found out about his destiny, which Baniti privately thought was too late, going on how Juliedaih and Sethos treated him and why.

"But I ain't missed a ball game yet."

Jochebed and Baniti were at Legacy Day for Abanoub, not just because it happened to Miriam's legacy day as well, but Sethos and Juliedaih were nowhere to be found. The memory still made him angry.

"And that ain't ever gonna change."

Now he just makes sure that Miriam brings Abanoub by every single break, just so he could have the support system his family refuses to give him.

"I could never walk away."

Now he finds himself saying he has two kids before he can catch himself, and he finds he doesn't mind.

"Yeah, he's my son and that's my choice."

He'd even tell this to the queen if she ever bothered to look and find out where her second born went.

"He ain't my blood, but he's my, he's my boy."

When Abanoub came marching into the room, angry and upset, he knew how to calm him down, it was the same way he calmed Jochebed down.

Lie and Alphonse[]

"It hit me like a train, the first time she called me dad."

Alphonse remembered the bright eyed young teenager who called him Papa within two weeks of the wedding.

"In a crayon picture with all of us holdin' hands."

Her school project was all about families, and he had been pleasantly surprised to see that she had included both him and Heinrich, labeling them as her father and her brother respectively.

"Her mama said, "I understand if it's too soon for this"."

Reizand had tried to be polite about it, but definitely seemed mad at her daughter for doing that so openly.

"I didn't let her finish, I took it to the kitchen and I stuck it on the fridge, yeah."

Grimm he missed Lie. He missed his daughter. Where did she go?

Navi and Keres[]

"She ain't my blood, ain't got my name."

She listened to the grumpy teenager ranting as she entered the small cottage, with a tiny smile on her face.

"But if she did, I'd feel the same."

Maybe if she was actually Navi's mother she would have calmed her down with cookies and a hug, but she knew from experience that listening to her rant was the best thing the older woman could do.

"I wasn't there for her first steps."

Pradhi all but abandoned her when she was four and she lived with her since then. And in Keres' humble opinion, she's been doing a good job.

"But I ain't missed a ball game yet."

Anything, from Uno's misguided attempts to get Navi to join any sort of team, to Career Day at Ever After High.

"And that ain't ever gonna change."

Keres would be there every step of the way.

"I could never walk away."

Maybe she was treating Navi as a second chance since her first case of being a mother was scripted not to end well. She didn't know.

"Yeah, she's my baby, my whole world."

What she does know is that she loves that wild haired grumpy teenager a lot, and that's all. That's everything.

"She ain't my blood, but she's my, she's my girl."

Once the ranting stops, Keres holds out a plate of Navi's favorite snack and she almost gets a smile in return.

Dolores and Death[]

"She's Saturday morning cartoons."

He remembers stumbling upon her after taking a break from doing his job, to hear her pretending to act out some fantastical story, much better than anything on the living's TV, in his humble opinion.

"She's, "Hey, can I sleep in your room?"

And all the time she got lonely in the house and stumbled into his room or his office where he was, not saying anything, just moving her play over there to be near him.

"She's bigger than the plans I had."

He never imagined he'd be a father, and definitely never imagined he'd be a good one, but he doesn't think he's doing a bad job at least.

"She's makin' me a better man."

When the door glows, signifying that she's coming back, he's hit with a thought that even century old un-dead beings can learn new things.

Triple and Trio[]

"He ain't my blood, ain't got my name."

Of course Duo is the one that took him in, Duo was the one that was good from the very beginning.

"But if he did, I'd feel the same."

But Trio lived at the palace with Duo, it meant that she could get as close to him as she wanted, she could treat him like a son.

"I wasn't there for his first steps."

She's missed a few milestones just because of bad timing and she'll always regret that.

"But I ain't missed a ball game yet."

But she's always there when he needs her and she thinks that's good enough.

"And that ain't ever gonna change."

He seems to seek her out more than he seeks out Duo and that may or may not give her some sort of satisfaction.

"I could never walk away."

She promised to be there when he needed her, through his villainous part of his destiny, or through his rebellion. Wherever he needed her.

"Yeah, he's my son and that's my choice."

Because that's the kind of thing a mother does. At least she thinks so.

"He ain't my blood, but he's my, he's my boy."

It's not like she had a great example to learn from but she doesn't think she's doing a bad job.

"Yeah, he's my, he's my boy."

Not that anyone would know how she views her fellow three eyer. Not yet at least.
