Biography[]

Salam! I'm Anissa Ghazal. I will tell you about my mother Halima. She was the daughter of a pious family and grew up with her father Muftah and her brother Demba. One day, Muftah and Demba had to make a journey. Since she was not allowed to come, she was to stay home and was to be watched by the muezzin at the mosque, whom the father assumed was a good man. But the muezzin was a bad man and made advances toward her, and she refused his advances. The muezzin then wrote a lie about her telling her father that she had gone to the market with no veil, talked boldly to strangers, and behaved like a dancing girl. Her father was so angry that he ordered Demba to kill her. Demba brought her out to the desert, but could not kill her, so he let her go. She lived among the gazelles and her hair grew long to cover her body. One day, a young king found her. He took her back to his palace and married her, and the two later had a son. The king's vizier was jealous of her and tried to take her for himself, and she kidnapped her child. She went to search for him, but in vain. She disguised herself as a man and found work at an inn. Her father and brother found her, and the king, muezzin, and vizier came too. She told her father and brother the story of Halima, and at the end cast down her hair to reveal who she was. She also revealed what the muezzin and vizier did to her. The muezzin and vizier were punished. Halima was reunited with her son, and she and her husband went back to the palace.

Things have been going well at the palace now that my parents are safe. I am the youngest child and only daughter of my parents. I have three older brothers to protect me, as well as my cousin Ayoub. My grandfather passed away soon after I was born and now my uncle Demba is the one who looks out for my mother. It had been prophesized at birth that, as my grandfather's only granddaughter, that I was due to be the next Halima in The Girl Who Lived with the Gazelles. Because of this, my parents have been pretty protective of me. I've rarely been outside the palace walls until I started going to Ever After High.

I'm a very quiet girl, and I spend much of my time indoors. I spend much of my time in my room, combing my long hair and singing to myself in the mirror. I take delight in the birds that come by my window, and I get a nice view from the window. My room at Ever After High isn't the same - there's a big tree in the way and sometimes the wind blows the branches on the window at night.

I'm very close with my cousin Ayoub. He respects me most of all, and he's very adventurous - he's fond of journeying to far-off places and bringing back gifts for me. We were born in the same year, although he's four months older than me. He frequently comes to visit me in my dorm, and he protects me from harm at this school. I know that I can trust him to get me out of tight spots, and of course he can trust me no matter what happens between us. That's why I consider him to be my best friend.

I do have some special stuff about me, though. Due to some kind of fairy gift (at least that's what I think it is), I'm able to magically extend my hair. I can grow it so it can cover my body and my face. I also have the ability to speak with the gazelles. Gazelles are very nice animals - they don't judge you and they will accept you into their herd no matter who you are. I don't often tell other students about these gifts since they might give me unwanted attention, but they make me feel proud of myself.

Now for the destiny conflict. This one's a pretty tough decision - I don't know what to do. On one hand, I think I am capable of living out my story just fine. On the other hand, I don't think I want to be left at home while Ayoub goes on journeys - I want to journey with him and explore far and wide places. It's such a tough decision on what to do with life - that's why, for now, I've decided to remain Neutral.

Bisalama!
