Quotation1 ...I'm not a human metal detector, ok?

Anteros explaining that, despite what the general population thinks, he is NOT a human metal detector.

Meet Anteros Princely (he/him, introduced 2015), Ashlynn Ella's Prince. His destiny is to be married to Ashlynn, and outwardly to his peers he seems to be Royally ok with that, but internally and among his closest friends it is revealed that he'd rather have a different Prince entirely. Due to this internal-external conflict, he is classified as a Roybel.

Personality[]

He's kind of a quiet, unassuming dork who is better at listening than he is at orating. He has a lot of internal snarky comments, but typically he doesn't express these outwardly because he knows it will hurt people's feelings; on the off chance that he actually does make a snarky comment, it's usually really passive-aggressive and veiled. He's a pretty big pushover and really doesn't like saying no to his classmates and friends; oftentimes this causes him to be buried under a lot of obligations, extra work, etc. When that happens, he can get kind of tense due to the stress and periodically Ashlynn has to set him down and try to get him to relax, calm down, and stop saying yes to everyone and everything. It doesn't usually work. Besides these traits, he's also incredibly oblivious to emotions unless they're spelled out for him. Complain to Anteros about this guy you like, and he'll give you witty yet meaningful advice about your crush; develop a crush on him, however, and he probably won't notice your feelings for months. If ever. Oh and he also has a fairly explosive temper coupled with an ability to hold long-term grudges. He's not quick to anger, being fairly easy-going, but once he gets there he can be downright mean. Add that to the grudge-holding and you'll find that once you get on Anteros's bad side it can be extremely difficult to mend your relationship with him. He can also be stubborn with apologies; with slights he's fairly quick to apologize first, but if it's a serious fight his pride gets in the way and he'll refuse to apologize first, forcing himself to think he's in the right. At that point either you apologize first or his friends manage to talk some sense into him--and that only happens if he's REALLY messed up.

Appearance[]

Tanned skin with freckles, green eyes, brown hair, infectious smile, a swordsman's body.

How the Story Goes[]

Y'all know the story of Cinderella, so let's just get straight to the story link: Wikipedia Page on Cinderella

How does Anteros come into it?[]

Since Cinderella marries her prince at the end of the story, obviously a new Prince has to be found in every new generation. This time, he hails from the Princely family, who, despite the name, is not actually a royal family. Anteros is the first to be chosen out of his family to be some kind of Prince, so there's a lot of push from them to follow his Destiny and be that prince.

Relationships[]

Family[]

The Princely's are, in essence, budget Charmings, mainly hailing from Greece. The family has only risen to low prominence in recent decades due to being a family of largely non-destinies. Occasionally a family member will be given a minor role in a fairytale, but this is infrequent. Anteros's specific branch thought this would be the case too.... until Anteros himself was born and was chosen for the role of Cinderella's Prince.

Suddenly the whole family was catapulted into high society and into the spaces that only the big name Charming families use. It was... An adjustment, to say the least, for Anteros's parents. Having all that pressure on them to be like the Charmings put a strain on their relationship with each other and their son that only barely recovered later on; in addition, it derailed their plans for their children's names; specifically, they were going to go with Greek names all tying into love, like with Anteros. Now, however, they were on the level of Charmings™, and figured to blend in they'd have to act like it. So when they had two more children after Anteros, their names didn't follow the original theme. Overall Anteros loves his parents, but t was only after WtW that he really cemented a positive bond with them; luckily his relationship with his siblings was never as strained.

Amiable Princely, nee Charming: She was a minor Charming from a line that hadn't had any big roles in a while and was only ever a minor character. She's excited to get her family back into the big leagues of Charmings and is the main instigator of making the Princely's more Charming-like. She means well and only wants what's best for her children, but the idea of being part of Big Name Charming Society has gone to her head a little, to where she's more preoccupied with looking like a Charming Family™ than she is with making sure her children are happy. (Eventually she learns not to be so preoccupied with this idea of being high society and simply appreciate the family she's been given.) She goes by Ami pre-Anteros's birth ("it sounds less weird than Amiable"), goes back to Amiable to try to fit in with the Charmings, then goes BACK to Ami after she's realized what family really means to her. ....Oh my God she's the businesswoman who throws her blackberry into the river because she realized family was more important isn't she. Her realization comes after WtW, when Anteros comes out as bisexual to her.

Agapios Princely: He's a normal man from a family of non- or low-level-destinies of Greek heritage. He fell in love with Amiable at a young age and has enjoyed building a life together with her. He was initially planning on naming his kids with her after various Greek words for love, starting with Anteros. When Anteros got his destiny, however, he felt very out of his element and deferred to Amiable about how to go about integrating into Charming Society, including changing his children's naming conventions to adjectives to fit in with the Charmings (though he did veto some more... Out there ideas his wife had. Accusative is not a great name for a person, no matter what she says). Part of him wishes they'd been able to stay low-level, recognizing changes in his family (and wife especially) that he's not sure he likes, but... Like it or not Anteros has a BIG part to play and if integrating into the Big Name Charming Society's life helps prepare his firstborn for that, then he'll do whatever it takes to be a Charming-level Princely. He took Anteros's coming out pretty well.

Ardent Princely: He's the middle kid, always playing pranks on his siblings. He and Anteros have always had very "bro" type relationship (think Tadashi and Hiro) and Anteros would help hide the evidence of Artie's pranks. Since Anteros is at school he's gotten closer to Adorable, to where they're thick as thieves. He's wary of Arion but knows Anteros is the happiest he's ever been with the merman so he's generally chill.

Adorable Princely: She's the baby of the family and a total sweetheart. Anteros adores her (hah) with all his heart, and was the first one to nickname her Adora. She was the first person in the family he came out to, and she's always been super supportive of him. She also basically adopted Arion into the family on her own when they first met, and affectionately calls him Big Bro, same as Anteros.

Friends[]

Anteros, in this fanon universe at least, is fairy-ly close to his destined princess, Ashlynn. She is the only person at school who knows he's not, in fact, as straight as he appears, if you catch my spell. Beyond her, he is slowly working his way into Arion Neptune's close confidences, and by extension, Arion's friends.

By the time of Way Too Wonderland and beyond, Anteros has pretty much inserted himself into Arion's main friend group and has even worked up a pretty strong dislike for Myrtil Starboard and Tempis Courtly. So when they apologize for their behavior after WTW, Arion accepts it, as do some of the others, but Anteros... doesn't, really. He's never truly mean or cruel (he's too much of a nice guy for that), but he continues to hold a grudge against them (especially Myrtil) for nearly the entire school year afterward.

He's recently met a mouse from his story named Sonia Fieldmouse and has enjoyed her company immensely. Only time will tell whether their acquaintenceship blossoms or not.

Pet[]

Anteros has a small pet mouse, named Perrault.

Romance[]

Quotation1 So this is Love, mm-hmm-mmm-mmmmmm... So this... is Love.... So this, is what makes life divine...

Who could have known that chance encounter at a meeting of Rebels shortly after Legacy Day, back when Anteros was still a Royal, would lead to a brand new shot at Happily Ever After for Anteros Princely? Certainly not the boy himself, who visited only to support his friend Hunter and discuss the conflict civilly with some of the Rebels. But that's exactly what happened when he ran into (literally) one Arion Neptune while Hunter was off talking. They'd seen each other in passing at school, of course, but they'd never talked before; Anteros wasn't entirely sure the merman didn't actually hate him if he was being honest. But here they were, at the same meeting, and the got to talking, and suddenly Anteros found himself with a new friend at the end of the night from an unexpected place. One new friend soon became several, as the princes and princesses who had taken it upon themselves to protect this socially distant merman quickly warmed up to him, but Anteros found he was always closer to Arion than the others; they'd meet up to study for Kingdom Management (begrudgingly for Arion because he hated the class, but he knew he had to pass and Anteros was the only one patient enough to help tutor him), or go talk for hours at Hearts and Roses Cafe about literally anything and everything, or go over to the gym where Anteros would (attempt to) teach Arion to dance, and Arion would (attempt to) teach Anteros some of the swimming strokes he used in his swimming competitions. Over the months leading up to Way Too Wonderland they grew very close indeed, close enough that Anteros came to realize... they still weren't close enough for him, because he was falling in love and he thought Arion didn't feel the same. But what could he do anyways? Arion wouldn't go for dating even if he did feel something, he'd already said as much; he didn't want to break anyone else's heart that way with his destiny still looming over him. Anteros figured a close friendship would have to be enough, for both their hearts' sakes...

But then Way Too Wonderland happened, and suddenly that wasn't an issue anymore. So with that, coupled with Arion finally dropping hints that Anteros's crush was mutual, plus a romantic encounter at a masquerade ball (including a first kiss), Anteros and Arion officially become a couple. Their shipping name is Sea Glass. They didn't come out as a couple immediately, though; they waited a few months for Anteros to come out as bisexual first, along with Venetia setting Arion up on numerous blind dates before their official reveal. Thankfully, the public reaction was mostly positive, even from Anteros's family.

Enemies[]

Anteros is a real, legitimate "Nice Guy." He's sweet, shy, and rather unassuming, and he says yes to pretty much everyone. That being said, though, he does have faults, saying yes to the point of overworking himself and giving himself unwarranted stress being one of them. Another is his ability to hold grudges. He doesn't get mad at people easily, but when he does he stays mad at them for a LONG time, especially if they've slighted himself or someone he deeply cares for. So, despite the heartfelt apologies and acceptance from the rest of the friend group, Anteros holds a grudge against Myrtil Starboard and Tempis Courtly, though moreso Myrtil. He begrudges their behavior during the Royal/Rebel conflict and their choices to stay Royals and not help out their fellow story member as Rebels, feeling that had hurt Arion. So, they never become outright enemies, but Anteros gives Myrtil (and to a lesser extent Tempis) a seriously cold shoulder.

Outfits[]

Anteros's Box-style Art!

Anteros's Basic outfit is rather old-fashioned compared to some characters. He wears a puffed-out collared blouse colored in multiple shades of blue and silver and patterned in a stained-glass style featuring motifs from his story (like mice, fairies, the clock, and pumpkins). Over it he wears a green and brown open-breasted jerkin, with slit panels extending down onto his upper thighs so they might fan out as he dances. His pants are very high-waisted and colored in a dark blue, and the extend down to his mid-calves where they meet his shoes, silver and blue Doc Marten boots.

Anteros's Legacy Day Outfit

Legacy Day: Anteros's Legacy Day outfit is certainly one that's worthy of a future King. He wears a light blue dress shirt (sleeves are not rolled up) and a dark grey tie underneath a black and white stained glass-patterned blazer with a dark grey lining. Over the top of his jacket he wears a light blue sash that crosses his chest from his right shoulder to the left side of his waist. In his left breast-pocket he carries a silver pocketwatch with chains that connect to his jacket buttons falling underneath the sash. On his shoulders he wears silver epaulets with silver cords dangling all around the bottom of each. Attached to those epaulets is a large cape that when hanging loosely reaches his mid-calf. The inside of the cape is light blue, while the outside is white. For his lower half, Anteros wears tight dark grey breeches with a light blue stripe down the outside of each leg. The pants are stopped at the knee by black and silver boots bearing pumpkin-vine designs in blue and green. For his head, he wears his hair parted, with the sides being smoothed down around his head while the top/middle hairs are teased up and curled to one side. On top of his hair he wears a stained-glass crown colored in blues, greens, yellows, and reds, surrounded by silver. He also wears a silver stud in his left ear.

Trivia[]

  • Anteros is, in Greek mythology, the name of the God of Requited Love. It was pretty fitting, not just within his destined story, but in his story with Arion too. Also the first incarnation/variant of a "Cinderella" story was Greek.
  • Perrault is the last name of one of the retellers of Cinderella. He did a French version while the Brothers Grimm did an English language version.
  • Anteros's official sexual orientation is Bisexual Grey-Aromantic.
  • He is the most uncoordinated prince ever. It's a good thing that Cinderella's Prince in particular doesn't do a whole lot, because Anteros can't do any kind of fighting without accidentally chopping off a test dummy's head.
  • He can fence, though. It's the only form of fighting that he can do because he can relate it to dancing, which is something he excels at. It's not much good outside of a duel, though.
  • His Angeline Patchwork-given nickname is "Parrot." It matches Arion's nickname "Birdie."
  • I'm pretty sure I have someone to thank for Anteros but now I don't remember who, so if you helped develop him please tell me and I'll give you the shout-out you deserve!
