Since I've made so many OCs on here for over a decade, I've wanted to ask this for quite some time now: how do you decide on what stories to use for OCs? Are there any factors you consider on deciding on what stories to use?
What's on your mind?

Fanon Discussion
Since Christmas is coming up in a couple of days: what do your OCs want for Christmas? Feel free to discuss what they want for Christmas in this thread.
Just Updated
We've already had lots of discussions about our student OCs, but what about the adults in the Ever After community? The teachers, the parents, and adults in the fairy tale community? They should have their own discussion thread too! Feel free to share info about your adult OCs, as well as ideas you have for future adult OCs.
Although I pay most attention to the student OC that I make, I also really like making OCs that are adults. Now that I'm in my thirties, I enjoy writing adults a lot more than I did when I was younger, since now I find them easier to write because I have experience as an adult. Among my adult OCs...I think my favorite is Sheena Sealsong and Polydore Lamoureux. I got the idea for Sheena as a celebrity in the fairy tale world, and I loved the idea of doing a selkie OC because I love seals! (I also took a lot of inspiration from "The Little Seal Girl" from As Told by Ginger.) As for Polydore...I liked the idea of a fun-loving, nerdy uncle, and The Ogre in Love was a perfect parent's story for him because the story's protagonist had a much younger brother (Polydore filling the role of said brother).
I have plenty of ideas for adult OCs, though I only have four in my tech lab. I recently got ideas for adult OCs based on the Sugar Plum fairy and Mother Ginger.
I've been wondering...what tools do you use when you do art for this wiki? (This could be stuff like pencils, crayons, etc., or programs like Paint for those who do it by computer.) Also, do you do your artwork by hand or on the computer?
Since I do all my art by hand, I generally use regular old computer paper to draw my OCs. When I started doing art online a decade ago, I used paper from sketchbooks, but I quickly discovered that computer paper was more convenient (you don't have to rip it out of a drawing pad, plus it's smaller than sketchbook paper) For the art itself, I use number 2 pencils for the outlines and colored pencils for the color (I usually buy Crayola, but occasionally I'll buy other brands for additional colors). It might not be professional, but I still have a lot of fun with it since I generally prefer to do art just for fun. (There's lots of professional artists on DeviantArt who sell their drawings, but I prefer having art as a hobby.)
Since it's been a while since we've had a discussion, I would like to start a really fun one. In this thread, we can talk about our OCs' bedrooms. Feel free to share pictures! If you don't feel comfortable showing a picture, you can describe what their bedroom looks like.
You can do either their EAH dorm room or their bedroom at home, or both if you want.
This is a bit of a follow-up to the Rejected OCs discussion I . I figured I'd ask some of the newer users on here.
Have you ever made an EAH OC that was based on a story that wasn't allowed on this wiki? What disallowed story did you use? What was the OC like? Were you able to rework your OC into a more suitable story? (I've noticed a lot of users on here started with an OC based on a story that wasn't allowed. This is understandable, since many of us don't learn about the rules of a website until after we join it. Plus we all learn from our mistakes.)
For me, it's happened twice. The first one was for an L. Frank Baum book called The Master Key. His name was Roy Joslyn, and he was based on the book's main character, Rob Joslyn. I assumed the book was canon to the Oz books, but I later found out that it was not. I eventually got rid of Roy, but I stored his concept in my DeviantArt stash. Three years later, I found a more suitable parent story (an Italian fairy tale called Thunder and Lightning, which isn't about electricity but has a pretty cool title) and reworked him as Ercole Tuono, who shares many of his former incarnation's traits. The biggest irony is that I think Ercole has more in common with The Master Key's protagonist than Roy did.
The second OC was for La Llorona. I don't remember her well, but I think her name was Nereida Llorona. I took her down after I found out that the story had been disallowed and that it would better fit into Monster High than EAH (I tried getting into Monster High, but I never got into it like I did with EAH.). Unlike Roy, I never reworked her into another OC, since I only edited her page a few times before getting rid of her.
How about you?
There are two main versions of Beauty and the Beast. The most familiar is Beaumont's version, which is probably the standard version in the public eye, but there is also Villeneuve's version, which predates Beaumont's. I have read both versions and I've noted the many differences between the two.
Personally, while both versions are good IMO, I think I slightly prefer Beaumont's because I feel like it's more accessible and I think it made more sense. The long, elaborate French literary fairy tales are probably an acquired taste for many people. Villeneuve's version took a while for me to appreciate. I always thought it was weird that in her version that Beauty and the Beast were secretly cousins and that Beauty was a lost princess (not to mention it gives more reason for her sisters to be jealous of her - who wouldn't be jealous if they found out their sister was really a lost princess). I think I like it better in Beaumont's version where the merchant really is her father, plus Beaumont gave the sisters karma for their behavior (being turned into statues) while Villeneuve didn't. (As for the lost princess thing...French literary fairy tales do tend to insist on royalty having to marry other royalty, though Beaumont breaks that trend with a few of her stories.)
Have you read both versions? If so, which version do you prefer, Villeneuve or Beaumont?
I just got this idea: to have a thread about animals in fairy tales. Animals are a major part of fairy tales and they feature in countless stories across every corner of the globe.
I've done a lot of OCs with animal destinies, the vast majority of which are based on stories with people enchanted as animals, although two of my most recent OCs are the offspring of an animal and a human (like Cerise Hood in canon). There are a lot of stories of humans marrying animals - usually humans enchanted as animals, but sometimes actual animals.
What are your favorite stories that involve animals?
Feel free to talk about your OCs who have animal destinies, be they actual animals, humans turned into animals, spirits in the form of animals, etc.
You know how everyone has their fairy tale but Giles and Milton (for what we know) don't have one? Maybe it's because they're the brothers grimm. (idk if its fanon or canon)
NVM:its canon
(I should have asked this a long time ago!😯)
Out of your own OCs, which ones do you like best?
There are a lot of different things that inspire me to create OCs, so I'd figure I'd ask everyone else here. What are some things that inspire you to create Ever After High OCs? Feel free to discuss here.
Just a few minutes ago, I saw someone on another site refer to Ever After High as "Fairy Tale High". I immediately facepalmed, but I hate to say it, this wasn't the first time I saw this misnomer.
I always facepalm or roll my eyes (or sometimes even laugh) when people refer to franchises or characters by the wrong name. To name one example, I often hear Rugrats referred to as "the Rugrats" (with a definite article) even though there's no definite article in the show's name.
Have any of you ever heard someone refer to EAH as "Fairy Tale High" or by any other misnomers? If so, please share!
Since we haven't had a Fanon Discussion thread since February (I miss doing Fanon Discussion threads...they were so much fun back in the day), I was thinking of starting a thread where we could share ideas and concepts for future OCs. If you have any ideas/concepts you really want to share with other users, then this is the place to do it!
(Just remember to be civil in this thread.)
This is Dragongirl0122, except I couldn't find and access my main account, so I'll be using this new one.
Anyways, my OC Queenie Blanc is one of my more unique OCs, because apparently I couldn't find a good Magic Touch that would be befitting for a White Queen's daughter. So, I just wrote that she hasn't found hers yet. That was the seed to my question of how Magic Touches work.
Were people born with Magic Touches or do they develop the power later in life?
If they do develop it later, what are the signs? Do they experience an unexpected surge of magic? What does it take to earn a Magic Touch? Do they instantly have their power under control or does it take time to get it in hand?
I also notice that most characters in EAH have Magic Touches that don't instantly tie to their destinies. For example, Apple White's Magic Touch is that she can lure animals and boys to her aid when she bats her eyes or sings. It doesn't exactly relate to the role of Snow White, but Snow White does have a close relationship to animals.
Sometimes I get baffled when it comes to Darling's Magic Touch. When she flips her hair, time is slowed down? Is this a hint to her destiny? It doesn't make sense. That kinda inspired me to make nonsense Magic Touches for my OCs.
How do you find a befitting Magic Touch for your OC?
One thing I've noticed about my RPs over the years is that I've generally forbidden the use of magic in RPs.
I personally think magic bans work well since characters might use magic against each other and some people might not want that. I also think its fair to those who can't use magic, since not everyone in the EAH universe can use magic. Although I've been thinking that sometimes magic can be regulated instead of banned completely since some users might want to use magic that isn't directed at other OCs (for example, allowing shapeshifting OCs to change back and forth between forms), plus magic is an important part of the EAH universe.
Do you prefer magic or no magic in RPs? If magic is allowed, what are some good ways that magic can be regulated?
Throughout this wiki's history, many OCs have come and gone. In this thread, we can talk about our OCs that didn't quite make it - OCs that you had concepts for but never used, OCs that you deleted for whatever reason (OC had a parent story or destiny that isn't allowed on the wiki, OC had a destiny that was later used in canon, OC that needed a rewrite, OCs that you grew to dislike, etc.) Feel free to discuss any rejected OCs here!
Just one rule: no parody OCs. Serious OCs only.
First I will be discussing OCs I created that I had to delete since they came from unacceptable parent stories.
I've created hundreds of OCs over the years, and surprisingly I've only had two who came from stories that weren't allowed on the wiki. The first was Nereida Llorona, who was based on La Llorona. I didn't edit her much - in fact, she was almost a skeleton page. I found out after a while that La Llorona had been disallowed, so I deleted her and used her first name for a different OC.
My other reject was Roy Joslyn, who was based on the main character from The Master Key by L. Frank Baum. Surprisingly, he lasted for a few months until I was informed that The Master Key wasn't allowed due to not being canon to any of the Oz books. I marked both Roy and Nereida for deletion, and they were deleted. But I saved some of the text of Roy's page to my Sta.sh on DeviantArt, where they remain to this day. I was considering finding a different fandom where he might fit in better.
Who are your rejected OCs?
I've been looking over my OCs from both waves, and I've noticed that I've had my own "periods" where I favored certain stories to make OCs based on, kind of like how many famous artists go through periods where they mostly paint artwork with a specific theme (like how Picasso had a Blue Period, a Rose Period, a Cubist period, and many others throughout his long career).
Here are some of mine:
2014-2015 was my "d'Aulnoy Period", where I created a lot of OCs from the stories of Madame d'Aulnoy. During this time I also had a "Andrew Lang Period", where I made a lot of OCs based on stories from Andrew Lang's Fairy Books.
Late 2015 was my "Murat Period", when I made a lot of OCs based on the stories of Henriette-Julie de Murat
Late 2018/most of 2019 was my "Oz Period", when I made lots of OCs based on the Oz books
I also noticed there are times when certain stories become popular on the wiki and produce a lot of OCs. Like I mentioned on my blog post the other day, The Phantom Tollbooth was popular several years ago. A few years after that, The Three Musketeers was very popular. More recently, Aesop's Fables (specifically the ones with mythological characters) have been quite popular.
I'm not complaining or criticizing anything/anyone - I actually think this is a good thing. I love this because I'm very big on art and art history and I feel like it resonates with the long history of art and the various periods art has gone through.
Does anyone else feel like they have "periods", i.e. where they make a lot of OCs that share a story, country of origin, or author?
Hey everyone! Today I just discovered my old account (finally) that I created in 2016, OnceUponaLegend (otherwise known as Ginger) and past me made some OC's which I am willing to give away now that I've considered them retired.
They are all based on the fairy tale Pinocchio (except one who is based on Princess and the Pea) and all have pages of their own at the moment which you can find all of them here
Lemme know if you would like to adopt one of em!

First of all thank you all for the interest in the Fairestocracy AU, im really glad people are fans!
In relation to discussing how ocs fit into the universe, i figured forums might be a good way to go about it, on the suggestion of Spades.
As far as how ocs fit in, they can be one of a few things
(Role) Candidates- they are competing with other people to be the best fit for their desired roles. This encapsulates most students.
(Role) Legacy- they have been officially chosen as their roles, beating out the other applicants. Given the au is meant to be pretty open ended, with most roles remaining open for the sake of options, im unsure how id go about establishing this distinction as of right now
(Role) Defaulting- the character has applied for a role where they are the only candidate, and have not yet been officially chosen by the storybook of legends. If no one else applies for this role, they will get it by default upon graduation. Note, they never officially gain this role until Legacy Day (which occurs during Graduation), with the possibility of another person applying at any time, becoming a competitor.
Other notes:
- The destiny characters are competing for doesn't have to be the same as their non au role. If they hate their story or wish to be in a different role, they have that option!
- Beyond a general rule of 'canon characters are still the children of the previous destiny holders' (ie briar beauty is still sleeping beautys daughter, even if she herself doesnt have the sleeping beauty destiny) i have no strong feelings about which ocs are the children of the previous destiny holders- feel free to discuss this in this thread!
(Potential format i might use irt info)
