Ever After High characters from fairy tales written by French writer Marie-Catherine Le Jumel de Barneville, Baroness d'Aulnoy (1650-1705), better known as Madame d'Aulnoy. She wrote two fairy tale collections: Les Contes des Fées (1697) and Contes Nouveaux ou Les Fées à la Mode (1698), containing a total of 24 stories. Her fairy tales include stories such as The Blue Bird, The Yellow Dwarf, The Story of Pretty Goldilocks, Princess Rosette, Babiole, and The Bee and the Orange Tree. She also invented the term "fairy tale". Her fairy tales, unlike most modern fairy tales, were intended for adults instead of children - many of them were bowdlerized in later English versions. Most of the stories contain fairies - both good and evil ones - and feature active female protagonists.
