Cecilia and the Satellite by Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness

Seacilia McMerhon (she/her) is a 2018 introduced character. Seacilia, also known as Sea, is the daughter of Brooke McMerhon, the current 2nd Oldest Sister from The Little Mermaid, and her wife, Meryl McMerhon. Sea is currently in her Yearbook Year.

As a child, Seacilia always had a love for the sky and astronomy, and upon transferring to Ever After High in her second year, this love only grew. Sea is fascinated by all the knowledge of space that exists on land and wishes she could stay on land forever. However, she knows once she graduates High School, she'll probably never be able to come back. She still truly wishes to honor her legacy and story, yet wants to follow her own passions, so she sides with the Roybels.

History[]

Before Ever After[]

Seacilia McMerhon was born March 14th, 1998 to Brooke and Meryl McMerhon. Brooke had a very minor destiny in a large story- she was one of the Little Mermaid's sisters, and a princess of a prominent Mermaid kingdom. Seacilia was born into a large royal family and grew up with many cousins, aunts, and uncles, notably Meeshell Mermaid.

When Seacilia was 3 (going on four), her mothers had another child- her younger sister, Chelsea McMerhon. Seacilia adored her little sister, though Chelsea never particularly warmed up to Seacilia.

Seacilia didn't attend EAH during Freedom Year! As per tradition, mermaids aren't allowed to go the surface until their 15th birthday. Of course, thanks to a bunch of mermaids having destinies, this tradition is often bent for the sake of school. Seacilia mother's opted for her to stay at her private sea-high school for Freedom Year and transfer during Legacy Year.

Ever After High[]

Legacy Year[]

Seacilia transferred into EAH in Legacy Year when she was fifteen. During orientation week, Seacilia first met Jobal-Jennifer Moria, who took it upon themself to be her unofficial tour guide and ended up being her first and closest friend at Ever After High.

Unlike the rest of the student body, Seacilia's first Legacy Day was her very own. She never got the chance to see what the ceremony was like, and was naturally, very unprepared, but still very hexcited. Seacilia never got a chance to sign, of course, and witnesses Raven Queen's now infamous stunt.

In the weeks following the incident, Seacilia stayed effectively neutral. Truth be told, she was still caught up in her own life to pay any mind to the issue. She had just been transformed human mere weeks ago, and was still figuring out how the human world worked- there was no time to worry about destiny! Of course, there was and she should have, but Seacilia silently refused to acknowledge the issue.

During Poppy O'Hair's public breakdown revolving destiny, Seacilia did pay mind to the newly introduced "Roybel" aligment. Seacilia was never quite able to put a fin on how she felt about her destiny, not Royal enough to be a Royal, but still too much of a Rebel. Roybel, though not a perfect label, fit her well enough and it stuck.

Yearbook Year[]

Seacilia is currently in her Yearbook Year, and its been going swimmingly. She attended her first real Thronecoming with Jobal-Jennifer and enjoyed the Legacy Orchard field trip. By chance, Seacilia found the yearbook for her Aunt Pearl's year, spotting her and her future husband casually plastered in the Best Couple section.

Character[]

Personality[]

Dreamer / Optimistic / Intelliegent

Unlike many of Seacilia's relatives, Sea's never had much of an interest in land or humans. Hex, she's never even really had much interest in the water.

Instead, she's had a fascination with the sky and stars and all that was above. This love she's been fostering for sixteen years has certainly shaped her in many more ways than one. Generally keeping to herself and her notes, Seacilia grew up to be distant, yet a wide-eyed optimistic, always being very hopeful for the future.

Above all else, Seacilia is a dreamer. She has huge hopes and aspirations for the future and many, many plans for what she wants to do. All throughout her childhood, Seacilia was constantly talked down to told her dreams were simply impossible and she'd never get where she'd always wanted to be. She never let that put her down and has persisted with her goals, the same ones she's had since she was still a tiny child.

Still, Seacilia is very much a doer. She's dedicated and goal orientating and will stop at nothing until she achieves whatever it is. With her limited time on land, Seacilia plans to do as much as she can- discover as much as she can, visit as many places as she can, do anything as much as she can. However, she can be very one-track-minded and tends to forget about her surroundings and other things she has to do when she's focused on one task.

Seacilia is very much an optimist. She's the friend everyone tends to go to for reassurance when things are getting out of control- "don't worry, everything is going to be okay, I promise you!" is something Seacilia says a lot. She hopes for the best and... Well, plans for the best. As much as Seacilia is very happy-go-lucky, she's very much in denial that things could be bad. She's blinded by her optimism in a sense and won't accept that bad outcomes are possible. She sees that the facts are laid out, and despite being a very scientifically minded mermaid, she sometimes refuses to face the facts and stay in her own little optimist bubble.

While Seacilia does want to spend her time on land to the fullest, she's very much a rule stickler. She wants to keep a good track record (partially because she hopes a clean record will help her get into a good college) and is very much a goodie two fins (yes, I love that joke). She tries to just keep herself in line and doesn't like being that annoying kid constantly calling someone out on even the slightest deviation of a rule, but still often acts as the impulse control for some of her friends.

Sea is very intelligent and tends to act like a know it all, despite that fact that she... doesn't exactly know it all. Sea was often told by her mothers how smart she was and she exceeded in a lot of her classes, and while the praise didn't exactly build her ego, it seems to have given her more of a false sense that she was going to one day be some Albert Einstein or something. Sea is sorta aware of that fact that she tends to come off as a know it all, often correcting people and people pointing her out for it, but she seems to have a hard time defeating helping some and rubbing her intelligence in others faces.

Sea could very easily be described as a stereotypical nerd, which isn't entirely false, but certainly not entirely true. She tends to keep to herself and her books, but that's simply because she enjoys it, and its something she's passionate about! She may keep her distance most time, but Seacilia truly loves people and enjoys hear everyone's stories. She's very excitable and types with a lot of "!!!!!". Is somebody typing habits the best indicator of personality? Maybe not the best, but it's definitely important

Appearance[]

Seacilia is a dark-skinned mermaid with long hair, similar to this, which she usually wears in a bun, and light brown eyes. Seacilia stands shorter than most students here age, roughly around 5'1 or 5 feet exact. Is she often used as an armrest? Yes. Is she forever annoyed by that? Yes. She has silver freckles on her cheeks because it looks pretty.

In her mermaid form, Seacilia gains a fin a similar color to her hair but is a bit darker. Her hair also gains a shimmer to it.

Interests and Hobbies[]

Astronomy[]

In case you haven't picked up on this, Seacilia loves astronomy. It's her "thing". Her friends all know that she's the person to go to if you ever happen to have any space-related question. Sea fell in love with the stars at an early age and always found the stars simply beautiful. As much as Sea is a goodie-two fins (again, love that joke), there was a point when she said "screw it" to the mermaid tradition of waiting until you were fifteen to go above the water, and Sea would swim up to just catch a glimpse of the stars above. Seacilia loved talking to her aunt Pearl, who probably had the most knowledge about the world above out of all of Sea's aunts for obvious reason, and asking her thousands of questions that she never knew the answer to. Still, it entertained Sea.

Marine Biology[]

Well, when you're from the ocean, marine biology is just biology.

Biology was one of the few science classes offered at Seacilia's schools, and while it was nothing compared to astronomy, she took them and enjoyed them nonetheless. She's fascinated by how the world around her works, especially when it seems like everything can be chopped up to magic. But no, you see, there's science to that magic, order to the madness, and that's what Seacilia loves. Though she's focused more on astronomy now that she has the chance, she does still find herself reading up on her favorite biological concepts.

Hair Styling[]

The sisters of the little mermaid treasure their hair very much, and teach their daughters the same. Traditionally, all mermaids keep their hair long and take extra care of it, but considering the fate the sister's have, there's an extra sense of precaution. Seacilia is known among her friends to be able to do elaborate hairstyles, on any length or type of hair, yet keeps her own in a tight bun. She enjoys doing them on other people, but hates the feeling on her self, so she avoid anything besides a pun or loose hair at all cost. Ever since meeting Jobal-Jennifer, Seacilia has been trying to perfect space inspired hairstyles for them. It's going... Interestingly.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Transformation- Seacilia has the ability to turn into a mermaid, though unlike her cousin, this isn't activated by merely being around water.
  • Mermaid Abilities- Sea can also breathe underwater and communicate with sea animals. She's also a hexallent swimmer, for obvious reasons.

Fairy Tale[]

The Little Mermaid[]

Main Article: The Little Mermaid

You know it, you love it, it's The Little Mermaid. The sisters play a very minor part in the grand scheme of the story, but it there memories and recolation of the world above the sea that help grow their youngest sister's passion and love for it. They are the ones who try to save her, but fail as they can not control her, and live with the guilt for the rest of their hundreds of years of life.

How does Seacilia come into it?[]

The Little Mermaid is a famously tragic tail, and one many have famously failed to avoid. Say what you want about the ending from a metaphorical and introspective lenses, you can't quite argue that that's not exactly how the little mermaid herself wished the story to go. That was, until Aunt Pearl came around.

The Family Jewels by MARINA

From what Seacilia has been told (reliable or not), Pearl had always been adamant she would escape her fate and marry her Prince, whoever he was. Brooke and her sisters (but mainly Brooke) scoffed at this, and let Pearl figure out for herself that that sure as hex wasn't going to happen. Secretly, Pearl had been friend's with the future Sea Witch of her story, and from a young age their plan was already in action. High School rolled around, and Pearl met her destined Prince and fell head over fin, which just strengthen her desire.

Destiny eventually rolled around too, and Brook and her sisters went to the sea witch and then to the wedding boat like the story entail. Except, there was no wedding boat. There was no Pearl and Phillip. They were gone without a trace, eloping around the country and living the Temple Girl cast aside. That didn't go over well.

Quotation1 Did I beat you at your own game? / Typical of me to put us all to shame

The people found out and the Mermaid family was cast into shame. Pearl and Phillip didn't seem to mind, somehow becoming the rulers of Pearl's kingdom (much to Brooke's dismay), but the rest of the family did. How open they were about their rebellion angered the family (Brooke) the most. They weren't subtle about it in any way, they very publicly brought shame to their family without a care in the world. However, Brooke, the second in line to the throne all her life, was much more vocal. How could her sister, who clearly didn't give a hex about her families image, because the Andersen damn Queen. She fought with her younger sister and her elderly father, who abdicated the throne soul-ly for his favorite daughter.

Quotation1 Oh, you think I'm unfit / Little did you know that I was cut for it

When it was found out Brooke married a commoner without consent from the Queen, she was stripped over her royal titles and succession rights. The court loved the McMerhon family and Meryl herself, but Pearl, sweet baby Pearl who Brooke loved all her life, was bitter over their year long fights. Brooke's other sisters protested against Pearl, who barely relented. Meryl and Brook were granted the honorary titles of Duchesses of McMerhon, and when Seacilia and Chelsea were born, they became Countesses. Despite being purely honoary with no realm to rule, Seacilia will inherent the title of Duchess one day, but has. Brooke is still close with all her other sisters, who silently agree on the issue of Pearl's rebellion but say little of it.

Quotation1 Family said that I decided to live a loveless life / Is it my fault we stay divided? 'Cause I got too much pride

Eventually, the dust of the whole destiny and marriage debate within the family settled, and the McMerhons were somewhat accepted into court life. Still, growing up Seacilia knew something was wrong. Something was wrong with how her family looked at and how they were treated.

Views on Destiny[]

Seacilia is fine with having a pre-written destiny. Not excited, not even in the slightest. She's just kind of... aware of it and always thought that that's what she was going to spend her life being- a nameless, minor character in a famous story. It's not what she ever wanted- Sea would like to be great, make some world-shattering discovery that changes the science community as we know it. But I guess spending three years of your education just preparing to cut off all your hair is fine, though. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay.

Seacilia's main problem with her destiny isn't really her destiny itself, but the implications of Andersen Mermaids. Seacilia will never be allowed to return to land. While she may not be an enthralled with the land and human culture as her other distant family members, the world above is still full of people she loves and has built relationships with the past few years. Additionally, she'll be loosing the knowledge the land holds for her and the ability truly gaze upon the world above the world above.

Parallels[]

  • Sea wants to be great and remembered - The sisters are a pretty minor role.
  • Seacilia has an interest in hair styling - The sisters give up their hair to save the little mermaid.
  • Seacilia takes Advanced Dance and is relatively good at it - The little mermaid is said to be an excellent dancer.

Outfits[]

Seacilia mainly wears purple, pink, and teal and her outfits tend to focus more on a star theme, rather than the sea but ocean motifs are still there.

Signature - Roybel[]

  • Shirt - Loose fitting blouse. Probably a light color like lavender
  • Fishnets - Not traditional, tight-fitting "fashion" fishnet. Very flowy and hangs on one shoulder with a pin
  • Skirt - Top of the skirt resembles the crest of a wave covering a night sky of embroided (?) constelations.
  • Very poor edit on how I think the colors would look, though maybe a more dull: edit. Most details, like the detail of the waves and the constellations, are in purple. All other accessories are too.

Seacilia is, as one might expect, a straight A student. School comes easy to her, for the most part. She excells in math and science, of course, though her dyslexia has made English and other humanties esque classes rather diffcult. Still, she persists. Classes in Ever After are far different from classes at her old, private mermaid High School, which made the transtion period very rough for her. A lot of the history and science she had to learn was just straight up not taught back home- who needed chemythstry when you're underwater? All the science she could take back home was Marine Biology, a course not even offered at EAH. Luckily, she's figured it all out by her Yearbook Year.

Hextracurricular Activities[]

Star Gazing Club[]

Seacilia was one of the founding members of the EAH Star Gazing Club and currently serves as treasurer. It's a little small, but she adores being surrounded by other space lovers and those with space related destinies. They often have trips to the local parks to gaze and talk about upcoming astrological events such as Blue Fairy Moons and Sun, Moon, and Talia Eclipses.

National Fairytale Honor Society[]

As described in her mirror blog, Seacilia is a part of the Honor Society. As part of her membership, Seacilia offers tutoring for Science & Sorcery and Chemythstry.

Trivia[]

  • Seacilia has dyslexia.
  • Sea is bisexual.
  • Check out her mirror blog!
  • Like many mermaids, Seacilia has a hard time walking on land. Thus, she uses a pair of forearm crutches, which she has decorated with stickers and small doodles with paint.
  • Seacilia loves coffee, but mainly if it has a lot of added sugar and creamer.
    • The kind of drinks Storybucks has? A+ in Seacilia's book.
  • Seacilia uses a lot of these kinds of emojis: ✧☆✭
  • Jobal-Jennifer was the first person to start calling Seacilia simply "Sea". Back home, her family nickname was "Lia" (mainly because it gets complicated when you live in the sea and you call somebody... Sea).

Cecilia McMahon is the daughter of Meryl and Brooke McMahon, a local teacher and journalist respectively. Brooke, however, is from the infamous Mudd Family, one of the most notable global fishing enterprises. Despite being one of the eldest siblings, Brooke was not the heir to the families fortune or businesses, and cut herself out of the family. With a sudden grant from the family business, however, Cecilia is enrolled in EA Academy.

Cecilia and the Satellite by Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness

Cecilia and the Satellite is a song about a conversation between a father and his daughter, as he explains his life experiences to he and how he'll protect her no matter what. Truth be told, the actual meaning of this song has very little to do with Seacilia as a character. Hex, Seacilia doesn't even have a dad. Despite all that, this was the song that birthed Seacilia in a way. I remember extremely distinctly where I was when I heard this song and something clicked in my mind. It wasn't the first time I had heard it, it played extensively on this one radio station, and I didn't like it that much at first. But one day, while sitting in my father's pick up truck, the song somehow inspired me to make a mermaid obsessed with space. The name Seacilia came from this moment too, and I went home and started working on this character. So, tldr- even though the song it's self has little to do with Seacilia, it is Seacilia's song.
