asdfghkjl; Hope I forgot to thank you for this message. FKS is near and dear to my heart, 'and i'm glad they're characters in their own right and not merely deconstructions of the love-interesting-trophy-prince trope <3
I know this is my own message wall, and I know that the "user blog" function works perfectly well, but this is a minor question that I wanted to pose to people, that I didn't think an entire blog post would call for.
Now that my OCs are pretty much all updated, except for some art that I need to get to colour:
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Zena! I'm your secret Santa this year!
Well, I think I would have had to give up my Canadian citizenship if I'd passed up the opportunity to draw Klara playing hockey! I figured she's just practicing, so she's not in full gear (mostly because I can't even recognize my own sister in all her hockey gear, and I definitely wanted Klara to be recognizable, and her dress is super cute too.) I really, really hope you like it, and that you have a wonderful festive season!
jade!!! this is so wonderful to see!! I'm glad u had the opportunity to put your Canadian flair into my OCs, bc Klara in hockey gear is a precious precious image!! she looks so sweet and determined in your style :D!
Hi! I do indeed do RPs and I also have an Arthurian myself - Parker Valiant, but if I were to use him he'd clash with your own universe. So I'm happy to RP with you outside of Parker, bc I think that would be tons of fun.
I’m going to be in 11th grade (junior year of high school) on this very Tuesday!!! Now, I’m trying to ask if you ever remember a girl named Sabby from a few years ago? She was only 10 or 11 years old but was extremely mature for her age. I think this user should be 16 years old by now...like me.
The reason why I question is because I’m trying to find out whatever happened to her all these years later. We were really good friends and spent our childhood in chatrooms (back in the good old days - when things were way simpler and more innocent) - childhood nostalgia! It’s extremely difficult to find out when you only have their first name and city. Heck, children morph into teenagers and young adults. Chances are high that she probably isn’t even the same person she was back then. She’d sound completely different by now. Her appearance may have changed too much for me to remember. Did you ever remain contact with her, if you even remember who she is??
Hi Anita!! Sorry for the late reply, I've been overwhelmed by university and life. Funny how the 14 year old who founded this site is trying to get through the world as a semi-stable (sort-of?)-adult now, huh.
I never got to keep in contact with Sabby, though I do remember her. I think Sola has contacted you already about contacting Na?? Nevertheless, I wish you all the best in finding her again - I know what its like to wonder where your internet friends have all gone off to!
That reminds me, what made you choose DatAsymptote as a username? I didn’t know that asymptote is a real word until today. In my pre-calculus math class, we’re apparently supposed to graph non-linear equations (that I have no idea how to) and the ones with two lines were called asymptotes... is there some other meaning to ‘asymptote’ asides from the 11th grade math stuff?
No worries! I'm in the midst of finals season, so my replies and activity have been really scattered as well.
Asymptote is indeed in reference to maths! I really really really love mathematics, which you can probably see in OCs of mine such as Klara Spejl. Doing maths is honestly one of my favourite things in the world, I could spend hours on computations. Unfortunately, proofs are my ultimate nemesis, and because of that, the only maths I'll ever do academically is applied only (alas, pure maths... I may learn to love you outside of concepts more).
Sorry for the small tangent, it's just that maths is one of my favourite things, and it's been one of my favourite things for as long as I can remember, even back in primary/elementary school. So when coming up with my username, I wanted something that would herald to a thing I really love!!! I also really love puns, and found it really funny when I learned about asymptotes in early highschool ("haha, it sounds like ass-symptote!") and wanted to make a joke out of that and the phrase "dat ass". So therefore, DatAsymptote was formed.
My tumblr username at one point was also "donttouchmyasymptote", which I thought was a really funny nod to a) symptotes, b) respecting people's permission and bodily autonomy.
Asymptotes are definitely used outside of 11th grade maths, so if you really really really love asymptotes and want to do more maths, you're bound to see them more!!!!
Mathematics is not going so well for me right now though!! The schoolwork gets more and more abstract. I’m getting the hang of non-linear equations and graphing the x- and y- values though!! I was told that it wasn’t recommended for me to take this course since I was a bit behind in math last year, but I didn’t know how hard it would get so I signed up...
Ohhh, how is finals any different from tests in high school? There’s been discussions about post-secondary education lately but I don’t know what I’ll end up doing after high school! It’s kind of scary. We were told it was normal to not know, but people usually have a more developed sense of it by the time mid-12th grade comes around. I know for sure that I’d like to stay in the same city that I grew up in.
How do your parents feel about you being away for college? The US is a whole new country and the environment can be quite unfamiliar compared to home.
That's usually the case with mathematics. It doesn't help that highschool maths is often badly taught, leading to a lack of appreciation. There's some amazing YouTube channels out there, though, my personal favourite being 3blue1brown that really help you visualise maths and understand what's going on. I recommend them highly! Though, 3blue1brown is a bit more of the higher level stuff, but if you do calculus/linear algebra, it's really helpful. Also, there's more channels out there, 3b1b just happens to be my favourite!
There's not much difference, except finals is at the very end of the school semester and usually final exams count for a huge chunk of your grade (more so than assignments, midterms, etc). It's definitely normal not to know, the university experience was a lot different from highschool in my case. I think as long as you keep in mind where your principles lie in terms of picking a university (what you want to study, how much you value academics/extracurriculars/social life, if you want to maintain the same friends from highschool), you should be fine!
How my parents think is honestly not at all important to me, since this is my life and my education and therefore it should be my own choice on whether or not their opinion factors into things. I guess they're proud of me for getting into the school I'm at in the first place. Being away from home has really put me into a bubble that I'm too busy with other things to think about my parents, which might sound horrible but I've been handling it well, so it's not a worry.
Thanks for showing me that! The whole channel seems unfamiliar to me. I guess I haven’t learned any of that material at all! Honestly, I’m not as adaptable to changes so I decided not to study abroad. For me, my family is letting me choose to do whatever I want in the future. During my childhood, I would’ve said I wanted to be some fashion designer or a model within 2 seconds, but I realized that I wouldn’t enjoy it very much.
Anyways, my math course is actually called “Pre-Calculus and Foundations” so it would make sense that the calculus material you showed me seems so unknown to me. Do you consider going back to New Zealand again, or will you permanently reside in the US?
And that's 100% fine!! Your life, your choices, and as long as those choices don't harm you or other people, I think you'll do great.
As for the rest of my life, it's all nebulous. It all really depends on what I want to do after college, and I still haven't decided if that's grad school or med school or both. I do want to keep doing science, though! And I'll definitely go back home to visit.
Outside of maths and pre-calc I've hope you've been well!! Have you been keeping up with anything creative? :O Like art or writing or OCs?
Nope - I actually stopped getting into art, writing or OCs shortly after high school and got busy with other things. I might consider getting back into it again! :D
I’ve been pretty well, actually! How about you? It’s December already and another year is going to pass. I can’t believe it and I was saying this last year too! I’m more than half way through high school now. This school year has been so wild so far. So the whole system basically makes kids attend high school once they’re 13 years old, right? This year, these new students are WILD wild (not in a very good way, because physical fights and knocking over the trash cans isn’t good). Even the teachers have said they notice every year, the new batch of younger students seem less and less disciplined (okay, maybe they’re just obsessed with Fortnite and social media since they’re 2005 babies who grew up with it??).
This year has been the wildest so far 😂 but it can get out of hand. On the other hand, the school administrators are trying to monitor the bathrooms because people kept vaping or “Juuling” in it. I have an English class where they ban cell phones and limit how long/how many people are in the bathroom to “prevent” electronic smoking (usually, groups of friends will gather to vape). We’re actually lucky that it doesn’t happen extremely often though. In some other high schools, the admins and staff have to confiscate vaping devices on a daily basis because they’ll try selling them to other students :/ So that’s what high school is kind of like in 2018-2019.
That makes sense! Do what's best for you, obviously. As for state, I'm somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic region (hint: it's Maryland).
Dear Grimm, highschool seems so long ago and I know the culture drastically shifted. I honestly can't blame highschoolers themselves, but the way things are marketed to them and the lack of proper influence in their lives is... concerning.
Juuling is one of those things - we almost killed nicotine addiction in the youth, smoking is on its way out, but now nicotine addiction is making its way back in juuls and the Public Health research isn't being done fast enough to determine the long-term detriments, and while I do fundamentally believe that teenagers are smart and clever and earnest and angry, it's really up to the adult responsibility to realise and critically think if something like Juuling should really be marketed to teens, or whether Fortnite/Blizzard Games should really use gambling systems and cause addiction.
Because like, if something was built or designed or marketed that way, can we really rest the blame on teenagers for falling for it? We spent the first decade and a half of our lives being told what to do by parents, we get to highschool and hit adolescence and want to do things our own way, and often times the schooling system (especially in the US) hasn't been properly designed to allow us to critically think about the things we do. I literally didn't learn the Baconian Scientific Method until taking Psychology and Philosophy classes, neither of which are hard (as opposed to soft sciences, not hard as in difficult) sciences.
That said, "issues" in highschools are wholly dependent on which schools, etc. It's especially attentuated in poorer and underprivileged areas. :( which makes me sad, because if you grow up in a poorer area you're more likely to stay poor because the education isn't always enough to propell you in "rising above your social class".
Sorry for the ramble, I think about this stuff a lot. My own highschool experience was really tame, but then again I went to a private girls school and didn't do much outside of study and robotics :(
I live in Canada and it isn’t the worst here though :3 after all, I’m hearing from some Americans that this Juuling trend is being followed by lots of middle schoolers too (which, by the way, is like 11-14 years old). Frankly, I can’t really imagine an 11 or 12 year old doing it, but it’s probably only rare where I live because our school district segregates the 5-12 year olds from the 13-18 year olds and end up having less peer influence from older people. Those youngsters are stuck with attending school with kindergarten kids instead. There’s always exceptions though - tons of them are on sites and apps that they’re not supposed to be on so they are exposure to some things. Older siblings exist and plenty of people socialize with them on a daily basis. Surprisingly enough, although a GOOD thing, vaping isn’t usually in the hands of an 11 year old where I am - but it’s a very big problem in middle schools in the US.
What was your experience at an all-girls school like? Was there a lot of drama, having a lot of female teenagers in one place? I don’t really do much at school either !
I can't believe I didn't reply to this? Deepest apologies, I hope you have been doing swell Anita!! :^)
Honestly, a person's experience at a single-sex school is probably entirely dependent on their personality. I think it was great in some aspects -- I really developed confidence in my abilities as a potential scientist/engineer, and I hung out with the quiet academic crowd, so not much drama. Others... not too great. It was really formal and stuffy, and I was so glad to graduate.
My experience isn't entirely shared by other classmates, though. So, like any highschool, entirely reliant on the people!
So I will be turning 13 exactly one week from now.
I came across this site and I remember my childhood being full of MH and EAH stuff. I want to try re-visiting that phase to see if I get into it again, and, meet new people. But there's a policy that says kids under 13 can not go on here, even if the themes of some wikis seem to target a younger audience (I've never met anyone my age who still interested in Barbies and Animal Jam on a daily basis, for example). However, I do know some 8 year olds who really like those XD. It's been a while since I've had people to talk to as well. I'm sure I won't automatically become way more mature the minute it's my birthday, 7 days from now?? There really isn't a difference between most people born in January and someone born in June (in general). I'm just asking for permission to use the site, it's your call. K'Bye! :)
Hi Izela! The reason why we don't let those under 13 on is because of this internet law called COPPA. It basically means that it's essentially illegal/dodgy to collect information from those under 13. I 100% understand the passion to create and share, but because we want to keep the Wikia as a platform up and running and if we had to go to any superiors for help (the Wikia staff, for instance), we wouldn't be at the risk of being shut down.
I'm incredibly glad to hear of your interest, though! Once you're 13 (and free of the ever so frustrating COPPA law - I remember being super excited about turning 13 because of that, more excited that I was over turning 18), I'm sure it will be fine.
(I agree, there's really not much difference in the week leading up to being 13 either, but as I've said, COPPA is unfortunately more of a case in who you can get data from rather than a case of being able to carry oneself on the 'net with maturity. I'll likely ask other admins for their input in regards to whether it's chill for you to post this week, though! Either way, I do hope you enjoy the Wikia when you do use it!!)
Hiii! 💕 it’s my birthday today!!! Officially a teen. I feel no difference but rather dehydrated in the hot weather 😂. After all, I got addicted to Instagram at an early age :3 that’s every 9 year old kid in 2018 nowadays, from what I see. If you don’t recall me, I posted here last week 😂.
Hey, Zee! I can’t get on Discord atm (the school WiFi has barred me once and for all), but I wanted to know if it’s possible to underline text on pages. I’m planning out my next page and while it’s not necessary, it’d be a good aesthetic touch.
Hi Nyx! I'm of course not Zena but I do know to do that. Just type < u > insert text here < /u > (without spaces of course) to get something like this. This should work for strikethroughs and other formating, which you can view on this Wikipedia page.
I'm your Secret Santa this year~ I hope you have a very, very merry Christmas, full of love, joy and happiness and I wish you all the best in the upcoming New Year ^-^
As a gift I drew your awesome Airmid and even though It's just a bust I really hope you'll enjoy the drawing as much as I enjoyed drawing it! I'm so sorry if he doesn't like he should the slightest bit XD
