Legacy Day[]

TingLD

For Ting's Legacy day, I crowd sourced suggestions from the FFC on ways to make an outfit villainous. The answers received vary, but the general consensus was something that's big and black, unconventional clothing, loads of zippers/spikes/dark rubies.

In "the Light Princess", Princess Makemnoit was described to have a forehead that projected over the reset of her face and was in a scene with silver snake, so these were incorporated into Ting's legacy day. Ting also wears her hair in a low ponytail to emphasise the size of her forehead, as well as long nails for the Witch look. As usual, her motifs of keys and dragonflies are present.

I imagine she would've went for the outfit that feels most formal, and hence the hanfu. The hanfu often comes in light colours, so it's subverted by using dark and heavy fabrics. It's embroidered on the outside and meant to look like it's velvet on the inside.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the patterns? I'm so proud of it HAHA

Her pants are leather and there's spikes on them. Ting's canonically a fan of Snapdragon, so she probably steals some style inspo from Snatch HAHA

Wave 2[]

Tingoriginal

NGL I really struggled coming up with an outfit for Ting. I used a different approach with Ting, where I drew her base before planning out her outfits HAHA

There were ~3 outfit variants, each with a different colour combination. So about 7? different sets to choose between. The breakthrough came with Loona’s Butterfly teaser release. That night, I drew a rough concept sketch of Ting’s crop top/pants/over skirt and asked the FFC and irl friends for help.

Almost everyone agreed on the 4th outfit, and with a bit of tweaking, everything was smooth sailing (or as smooth as it can be HAHA). The wave/lock patterns are heavily referenced from Chinese waves art/ geometrical designs, and there’s some dragonflies in the design too

Something I was really insistent on including throughout the design iterations are the knots + keys. 1: because it contrasts with and compliments Addy’s ribbons 2: keys play a big part in Princess Makemnoit’s scenes. There are key motifs repeated throughout her outfit: in her hair clips, on her accessories/ as her heels. Ting also has quite a few flower patterns: her hair clips again, and forming the knots.

I also don't think many people picked up on this, but Ting's knots reference both the hanfu's general upper shape and a knight's epaulets! as a whole, ting has really subtle knight references, though time has gradually removed them haha
