Habits (Stay High) - Tove Lo

Rosella La Arancia, not to be mistaken with the Rosella, is a 2015-introduced and all-around character. Rosella is the daughter of the Fox from The Wolf and the Fox by the Brothers Grimm. Much to the surprise of everyone, Rosella is not the universe's original choice for the role. However, she stands proudly as a Royal, willing to honor her sister and prove herself worthy in front of her parents. It's unknown why she wears a fox mask or how she was chosen, but it's for a reason, surely.

Character[]

Personality[]

Rosella is one and only one thing: a true fox.

Of all the selfish princesses and greedy wolves, Rosella is the worst. She considers herself worthy of a place up there. Opposed to her role in her story, Rosella is much more demanding than she's supposed to be. She takes every chance to earn fortune, whether big or small. Rosella is devoted to fulfilling all that her heart desires, for some reason. However, she isn't necessarily cruel. In fact, Rosella works for her own great collection of various items.

Rosella is known for her intelligence. While she may be disliked for her deceptive traits, it is undeniable that the next Fox is smart and calculative, just like her predecessor. She is also very cautious when planning things or making decisions, placing the next stepping stone very, very carefully.

Whenever she makes a promise, Rosella will be completely committed to fulfilling it, even reaching points of violence and several unhealthy results caused by her set ambition. Other than that, she is also always devoted to her goals. Rosella does not simply run away from a problem, despite having much more important issues to speak of and suffering severe exhaustion.

As a fox, Rosella was born with a silver tongue. While she does work her way through her thieveries by herself, almost half of the entire ordeal's dialogue are lies. She doesn't like taking the long cut or dealing with the real, bigger problems. Rosella isn't always a liar, though. In fact, she is also blunt and critical a the same time.

Most of the time, Rosella is reserved. She avoids crowds, study parties, or group activities to stay in her own zone of comfort. Ultimately, Rosella doesn't have a lot of friends. She prefers to work by herself. She's better off by herself. It's not impossible for her to socialize, it's just... difficult.

Rosella is both a realist and a pessimist. While most people look on the bright side, Rosella doesn't. She views the situation as it is, and makes it worse with her whines and comments how it will never get better. She isn't blindfolded by views of sunny meadows and fields of flowers. Instead, it's a grave of sorrow for her. Rosella refuses to even see it in another perspective other than her sad, sort-of-angsty one.

Sadly, Rosella succumbs to many unhealthy habits to heal heartbreaks and sorrows. Because of this, she can be a bit of a hotheaded girl, rejecting healthier ways to please herself and continuing her terrible night routines (job at a night club, sleeping with people, and seldom drinks alcohol or smokes). These habits only make her headstrong behavior worse.

Appearance[]

Rosella is an Italian girl with tan skin and dark orange-and-brown hair. She wears a fox mask that looks sort of like this, however with no shades of blue. Behind her mask is a pair of light brown eyes. She also has an orange bushy fox tail.

Rosella's clothing is inspired by traditional Venetian carnival dresses in shades of dark red, dark orange, and brown, using black as accents. Her motifs are masks (Venetian ones), roses, and foxes.

Hobbies and Interests[]

Gardening[]

Gardening is actually one of her healthier habits. Rosella is interested in the topic of botany - how plants grow, where they grow best, et cetera. She does her botanical research best on rainy days outside, when she's completely alone in the fields and meadows (or the garden). However, she also has a garden of her own, and she maintains her lovely plants there.

Masquerade Balls[]

Coming from Venice, it's not surprising that Rosella is interested in masquerades. Back home, Rosella and her family always participated in the Venice Carnival by wearing elaborate masks and participating in traditional dances. Rosella herself has a collection of old masks from her old home in Italy, and she stills wear them proudly today (though not as often as her fox mask).

Additionally, Rosella is against all prejudice against mask-wearers. Society considers these kind of people dangerous or hiding who they really are. Some people just consider the masks creepy. However, Rosella doesn't mind and is obviously in love with these traditional Venetian masks.

Cooking[]

Loves, loves, loves cooking. She used to actually hunt and sometimes even eat raw food (in fox form), but once she learned how to cook her meal and do it for her adoptive parents, Rosella loved it. She loves every moment of flipping pancakes for breakfast, pulling pizza out of the oven for lunch, or twirling her spaghetti for dinner.

Hunting[]

No, Rosella literally hunts like a wild animal. She goes to the Dark Forest in search for food, brings them back to the Enchanted Forest (where she lives), and gobbles it up like a horse. Foxes are solitary hunters, and Rosella prefers to be alone when literally hunting for food. However, she has learned to hunt like a human and seldom hunts like an animal.

Fable - The Wolf and the Fox[]

How It Goes[]

A Wolf and a Fox are living together where the Fox (being the weaker of the two) is forced to do all the hard work for the Wolf. One day, the Wolf makes the Fox get him something to eat and the Fox says he knows where there are a couple of lambs. The Fox steals a lamb for the Wolf. But not content with just one, the Wolf goes back for more. He is caught by the farmer's men and thrown out after being severely beaten.

The next day, the Wolf again makes the Fox get him some food. The Fox says he knows of a house of the village where a woman is baking pancakes and steals some for the Wolf. Wanting more, the Wolf goes to the farm on his own, but causes a commotion which gets the woman's attention and is kicked out once again after she attacks him with her frying pan.

Some time later, the Wolf again makes the Fox get food. The Fox says he knows of a farmer's cellar where meat is being stored and leads the Wolf to the cellar. The wolf gobbles up the meat while the Fox also takes some but keeps checking to make sure he can still get out the way he came in. The Fox's constant scurrying gets the attention of the farmer who goes to investigate. The Fox is able to escape, but the Wolf has eaten so much that he can't get out and is eventually caught and killed by the farmer.

The Fox makes it back to the forest where he is pleased that he is free of the Wolf's services.

How Rosella Comes Into It[]

The La Arancia family is considered the only family to be able to earn the Fox role from the story The Wolf and the Fox, which means, with her older sister Abel La Arancia proving herself unworthy and getting expelled, Rosella was chosen solely because of the fact she shared the same heritage as her sister Abel.

Views on Destiny[]

Rosella is a Royal, meaning she is willing to follow her destiny.

However, Rosella is far beyond willing to follow in the pawprints of her ancestors. She is obsessed with whatever is related to her story, her legacy, or following destiny. In fact, it is believed her obnoxious obsession will instead cause the downfall of her legacy. Whatever it means, Rosella is in love with it - whether she was forced to, pretending, or neither.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Abel La Arancia[]

Quotation1 'Cause I, I have got a lousy connection

I promise my undying affection

Lousy Connection - Ezra Furman

Rosella has a sister - Abel, who is, surprisingly, actually younger than her. They had a very strained relationship, since Abel often rubbed her destiny on her sister's face and always putting her into a raging state. It was on Rosella to take care of her and protect her, but she never took her duties seriously and often left Abel alone. They have huge - and I mean huge - sibling rivalries to prove who is better. And while it's clear Rosella is the best, Abel disregarded her abilities and commented them as mere strength that came out of hitting her. Abel teases Rosella to the pit, and it never stops. It's a good thing Abel was accepted at Ever After High, right?

However, once Abel enrolled, things started to get worse. Rosella was treated like a Cinderella. Like the Fox of her own tale. She called her sister several times just to check one her, asking if she was OK or if she was homesick or was feeling burdened. These calls always ended up in heated arguments and sometimes even vows of never speaking to each other again. They don't actually mean these vows. Alas, these calls came to an end when Abel was expelled, disowned, and sent to an orphanage far away. And Rosella took it upon herself to honor in her sister's footsteps. She blamed herself for purposely trying to cause her sister's failure. The image of her sister being sent away in a carriage and slaved away in an orphanage beyond the borders of her town haunted her ever since.

Adoptive Parents[]

Rosella and her sister Abel are adopted, however they are truly La Arancias and did not earn the title because of their English parents - William Roselay-Fountain and Lesley Roselay-Fountain.

William and Lesley despised Rosella. She always hid behind her collection of masks and always dived deep into her books rather than doing most of the chores like they always told her to. Comparing her to Abel didn't make matters better. William was always hard on her, forcing her to forget about her family and past and enjoy her "fantastic" childhood while she can. Lesley was a bit softer, sometimes lending her a hand on the chores, but she was still strict and almost never satisfied with the results. Rosella is close with neither of them and doesn't want to get closer. She feels lost and neglected by her parents, and she is ready to leave that behind her.

Biological Parents[]

Vincitore La Arancia and Siena La Arancia. They were her real parents.

Rosella lived with them until she was seven, but they were killed shortly after a circus and never came back home. Rosella loved them very dearly. They are the reason she wears her mask. It was sent from that circus minutes before they died. Vin and Siena were kind parents and were always there to listen to their two children. Rosella was especially close to Vincitore, who bought her many expensive baubles and taught her to be humble. However, she learned to love both of her parents, and still holds them close in her heart.

Friends[]

Rosella doesn't have a lot of friends as a result of her bad attitude. However, that doesn't mean she doesn't have friends. She has a small group of best friends that she isn't willing to let go of.

(TBA - Open for requests!)

Acquaintances[]

Idaea Kubileya[]

While it's true that Idaea has a dislike for liars, Rosella is a mesmerist and has made a little agreement to start an acquaintanceship. They talk about gardening, botany, cooking, and they do these things other than just have a convo. Sure, Rosella likes having Idaea around to talk to, but she knows she's always cautious and keeps a distant. It's been a while since Rosella gave up on trying to keep tugging Idaea and get her to trust her, but even she realized it's almost absolutely impossible. Rosella still tries, though, such as staying away when needed. But the unfortunate thing is that she has a bad record and she doesn't know when to come around for Idaea, and it causes them to be unable to be any more than acquaintances.

Enemies[]

Faybelle Thorn[]

Before the incident, Faybelle and Rosella were good friends. Best friends, even. They always had discussions about getting rid of Abel. However, these were all jokes and just a way to pass time. They were a cheeky duo, playing small pranks here and there. The biggest trouble made by them was a plot to cause Abel's expulsion.

During that period of planning, Rosella developed some sort of attraction towards Faybelle. They went on a platonic date to Bookend in search of a calmer place to do their plotting. Alas, their date ended up in them arguing and Rosella realized she didn't need Faybelle. She scrapped her off her heart and decided to continue the plot on her own. They still stayed friends, though.

However, due to Faybelle finding out and going against Rosella's initial plan to get Abel expelled, she hates her. Hates her more than anyone else. Faybelle still teases her about her sister being sent away, and Rosella wishes she could erase those hurtful comments from her mind. But she can't. Faybelle is a villain. It was her own fault for trusting a villain. It was a mistake never to be repeated again.

Pet[]

Lady Vivacita[]

Rosella's pet eagle from Animal Calling. She spoils Vi to death and is always giving some freedom to her. Her name means brightness. She is named that way because of her light brown feathers that become very bright in the sunlight.

Romance[]

Rosella isn't interested in romance. She used to have a small crush on Faybelle Thorn, daughter of the Wicked Fairy, but that has passed and she is no longer looking for a partner. While Rosella usually sleeps with people (seldom sleeps with other students since she enjoys doing things with older people), she is not looking for anything further than someone's physical body.

Trivia[]

  • Her name Rosella is the name of a protagonist in the Italian story The King of Love, Rosella, which is derived from the word rose. Roses are often depicted in the color red, and there are a specie of foxes (the animal that represents Rosella) called red foxes.
    • Rosella's middle name, Roma, is derived from the word Rome, a city in Italy.
    • La Arancia means orange in Italian.
  • Rosella is inspired straight from one of her creator's most prized possessions; a fox mask from Venice.
  • Her DND alignment would easily be True Neutral (not all Royals have good interests at heart!)
  • Despite coming from an Italian family, Rosella speaks with a British accent, probably because she spent most of her life with an English family.
  • Her theme song would either be Lousy Connection by Ezra Furman, about her outsider feelings, or Habits (Stay High) by Tove Lo, about her bad habits to keep herself pleased and forgetting all the bad stuff in her life.
  • She doesn't often understand puns or idioms and sometimes takes them seriously.
  • Doesn't understand the point of memes but has some in a private compartment anyways
  • Hates social media
  • She has a magic hand mirror bought by Vincitore for her birthday, used for displaying jewelries available in the nearest jewelry stores and which ones will look the best.
  • Loves Cooking Class-ic. Hey, if she's got to serve a beast she better please em.
  • Some people comment about her strong smell in fox form. She smells a lot like raw meat and forest trees whenever you pass her as a Hellhound-sized fox, actually.
  • Like Sparrow Hood, she lives in a treehouse in the Enchanted Forest because it matches her story and role, so Rosella doesn't have a roommate. Nobody wanted to room with her anyway.

Quotes[]

Quotation1 Stop waiting around for someone who will never come back. They're dead and gone and that's it.

Rosella's cruel motto

Quotation1 Ye know, I'm actually really pretty, but just like how you can't hold a beautiful rose for too long, you can't hang on to me for far longer than you can resist.
