The Actual Oneshot[]

They laid in silence as they thought. Two people, opposite lives. Heroine and villain, yin and yang, light and darkness, black and white.

Marissa sighed as she checked her phone. No new messages. She got up and went to her desk, sitting down in her spinny chair and crossing her arms. How the hell were they going to do this?

Makonnen seemed to notice, and walked over as soon as she sat down.

“Princess?” Mako asked, wrapping his hands around Marissa’s shoulders. Marissa took hold of one of his hands, rubbing her thumb over his knuckles.

“Mako, how are we going to tell Dawn?” Marissa asked, turning around to look him in the eyes. Makonnen sighed and crouched down to Marissa’s level and looked her in the eyes.

“We don’t?” He said, smiling bashfully. Marissa groaned and got up, going to the window. ‘Not telling her? C’mon Mako, think!

“Yeah, we just don’t tell our best friend that we’re going against our legacies.” Marissa replied sarcastically, looking out the window. The sun was beginning to set, and birds whistled a tune of happiness as two squirrels chased each other. One gray, the other brown. It seemed they were fighting over an acorn. Marissa snapped out of her zone out when she felt someone turn her around. Makonnen, with his hands on Marissa’s waist, looked her dead in the eye.

“I’m serious, Marissa. We don’t tell Dawn. About anything.” He said, rubbing his thumbs in little circles against Marissa’s nightgown. Marissa bit her lip. He had used her actual name, so Makonnen was considering it.

“Makonnen, what does anything suggest?” Marissa inquired, smirking. The mouse-turned-teenage-boy rolled his eyes and smiled at her. Marissa felt her cheeks heat up. If he doesn’t stop looking at me like that I’m going to slap him across the face.

“Well, about our rebellion against our parents and society of course.” He laughed, smiling as he kissed her forehead.

“Yeah, anything else?” Marissa asked, leaning closer to him and getting up on her tippy-toes.

“Maybe a thing that could happen right…now…” He said, leaning in. They met in the middle in the softest way. They both pulled away and looked each other in the eye and shared a laugh. Black and white had met, making a gray love that couldn’t be more confusing.
