Colors: The deep purples and soft oranges of a city during sunset, the burgundy of wine smudged on lipstick smudged on cheeks, and sweet honey-amber-gold. Dark colors absorb more sunlight, right?
Motifs:
- love- the most splendid thing in the world! So of course Xunfei will wear its mark on him!
- ghosts, shadows, and mirrors- these three are tied together through the theme of duplication, of Aduan unknowingly becoming a ghost and leaving his body behind, of Narcissus unable to recognize himself in his own reflection.
- skeletons and burial- Aduan's bones are buried by his mother. Xunfei's skeleton, on the other hand... seems to be in his closet, not six feet under.
- willow sprays- in the court of the Prince of the Dragon's Cave, Aduan becomes one of the willow-spray dancers.
- cats and Asian pears- for personal branding. Why pears? For Xunfei, it is because they are his country's national fruit (but for the author, it is because ĺ梨 (fÄn lĂ), meaning "to share / split pears", sounds the same as ĺ猝, meaning "to separate". If you haven't noticed, Xunfei has a bit of a track record with separating).
Style: Xunfei likes to be dressed like he's about to waltz down a city boulevard in the brisk autumn evening and take a spin in an expensive car. He (or his styling team, mostly) tends to combine understated designer pieces with flashier Guangtomese street fashion trends for an end product both luxurious and age-appropriate.
- soft, warm, sturdy fabrics- Xunfei likes velvet, angora, and cashmere, as they make him feel cozy. Furs (faux or otherwise), however, are not found in his wardrobe.
- embroidery and gold brocades- often done in red, as a reference to the red string of fate. These fabrics are also usually on the heavier side, and their weight makes him feel protected.
- gold and red jewels- these refer to the headpiece that the Prince gifts Aduan, a carbuncle jewel set in golden threads.
- long trousers- no matter the weather, long trousers are always the preferred bottoms.
- masculine formalwear- overcoats, waistcoats, and cummerbunds abound! The modern men's suit sees itself as both wedding and funeral attire.
- cutouts, slits, or openings- for visual interest. These break up larger pieces of fabric or show off an inside lining.

- long dark purple coat that ends at the knees (when worn properly), with middle vent on the back.
- beizi / pifeng influence (people apparently disagree on if pifeng should be considered beizi), with the parallel collar in a contrasting color. finally, the hanyuansu we deserve.
- matching dark purple dress pants, with subtle creases on the front
- dark red shirt that closes at the front with two cat silhouettes and has panels on the side with [insert] on them.
- buttons at the end of the cat tails are red jewels (carbuncles) with gold thread connecting them.
- sleeves have an opening that runs parallel from elbow to wrist, revealing the [color] lining, only to be secured with french cuffs and gold pear cufflinks (cufflinks tentative).
- his left sleeve is very roughly scrunched (not rolled) up
- velvet elbow-length glove in a dark, blue-tinged red. glove is loose, and red (a brighter, proper red) thread is fashionably wound around the glove to secure it. two bows are tied: one at his elbow, one at his pinky.
- pinky and index fingers of the glove are cut out.
- long dark desaturated purple coat draped over his left shoulder.
- inside of coat has a sunset color scheme.
- outside, coat is patterned with stylized ribs + heart.
- gold heart-shaped sunglasses with tinted red lenses. this is functionally his crown.

- waistcoat (with side panels!) slit in two right across the waist. bottom section is stiffened and used as a waist cincher. worn with shirt and tie, tie goes under top section and over the bottom section, hanging loosely.
